Saharanpur(Uttar Pradesh, India): Two persons have been arrested by the local Police for beating a man nearly to death in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Six accused who belong to the Bhim Army, A Dalit organization, have been named in the FIR for allegedly beating a Brahmin man over political differences.
The incident took place on June 29 when the victim Saurabh Sharma had gone to the gym at around 6 am. Meanwhile, while raiding the gym, the accused attacked Saurabh Sharma with the help of swords, rods, and sharp weapons. According to the victim, he was hit several times with the sword on his stomach, which could not pierce his stomach as he was wearing a belt.
“They(accused) have a dispute with us over political differences. They wanted us to vote for a candidate which was backed by the Bhim Army. We supported another Dalit candidate and they lost badly. This is how they started planning to kill us”, the victim’s brother told Neo Politico.
“This was the second time they attacked us. Before this, the members of Bhim Army had attacked us on 13 June but we are lucky enough to escape”, he added.
It was also alleged that the accused had used casteist slurs against the community and threatened to finish the existence of the community in the district.
An audio recording has also been shared by the family where the accused could be heard confessing to the crime and threatening to kill whenever they get the chance.
The FIR reads Arjun Singh, Gaurav, Vikas, Leman, Harsh Kumar, and one unknown person as accused. Police have arrested two of the accused and a hunt for other accused is still going on.
