Karnataka: Despite Quota Hike, BJP lost 39 out of 51 reserved seats for SC/STs

In a surprising turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has experienced a significant setback, losing a staggering 39 out of 51 reserved seats for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Despite recent efforts to increase the reservation quota, the party’s performance in these crucial constituencies has raised eyebrows.

The Karnataka Assembly Elections witnessed a high-stakes battle for representation, with SC/ST communities playing a vital role in shaping the state’s political landscape. However, the BJP’s inability to retain the trust of these marginalized communities has left political observers puzzled.

The party had sought to address historical imbalances by implementing a quota hike for SC/ST seats, intending to promote inclusivity and equal representation. Nevertheless, the outcome of the elections indicates a significant loss of support for the BJP among the SC/ST electorate.

The defeat in such a substantial number of seats reserved for SC/ST candidates calls into question the effectiveness of the BJP’s outreach strategies and highlights the need for deeper introspection within the party ranks. Winning the confidence of marginalized communities will undoubtedly be a priority for the BJP moving forward.

As the political landscape in Karnataka evolves, rival parties are keenly observing these developments and strategizing to capitalize on the BJP’s decline. The election results have injected fresh vigor into the state’s political arena, prompting intense speculation about potential alliances and new power dynamics.

Whereas, BJP won 60 per cent of seats where Brahmin voters are in the majority. The party secured to win 6 out of 10 such assembly seats.
