Bengaluru: Dalits hoisted dozens of Blue flags on the premises of a Hindu temple where allegedly a Dalit boy was fined for touching the divine stick belonging to the deity. However, the villagers have denied the allegations citing that the people who are performing the Pooja also belong to the ST community.
Also, a video of the incident is doing rounds on social media where it is being shown that hundreds of activists related to a Dalit organization have stormed the Hindu temple and hoisted flags which resemble Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
Netizens criticised the act
The video also attracted criticism and anger from social media users over hoisting the blue flags. Some people declared it an act of blasphemy or Ishninda. Another user challenged the protestors to do the same with other religious institutions. “Since we tolerate every one has courage to do whatever they Want with our temples. I challenge them to show similar audacity towards religious places of other religions”, Pranay Dhariwal said.
Eight people arrested
The Karnataka Police have arrested six persons in connection with imposing a fine of Rs 60,000 on a Dalit boy’s family for touching the Hindu God idol in the Kolar district of the state. Based on the complaint, Maasti police have initiated action and arrested the persons, who have been identified as Narayanaswamy, Ramesh R., Chalapathi, Mohan Rao and Chinnanaiah.
But on the atrocities on the Dalit family, the Dalit residents of the village have come together and said that there is no distinction between Dalits and upper castes in the village, all are united, and Dalits are not restricted in any temple.
