UP: Priest booked for reciting Hanuman Chalisa at time of Azaan

Kanpur: A temple priest has been booked for breach of peace by the Jalaun Police after he tried to recite Hanuman Chalisa in front of a mosque. It was alleged that the priest was using a loudspeaker to chant Hanuman Chalisa during Azaan’s time.

Angry over the action, the priest has staged a fast unto death demanding against the police officials. The priest Matsyasendra Goswami has refuted the claim of using a loudspeaker in front of a masjid.

He alleged that the action was taken in haste without proper investigation and the allegations of using loudspeakers are completely baseless.

The priest said, “Hanuman Chalisa was recited on Tuesday in front of the Masjid on Station Road, but loudspeakers were not used in any way. The district officials and the Kotwali police have acted without knowing the truth, which has hurt the sentiments of the saint community.

However, the Jaulaun police have said that they only had served a notice under 107/116 CRPc and the concerns of the priest are now sorted out.
