Dalits threatened to file a false SC-ST act, boy ends life

Sagar: An 18-year-old boy committed suicide at Badtua village in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh after allegedly being threatened with the SC-ST act. ​​Sumit Upadhyay, who was beaten up by four tribal youths, was found dead at his home. However, no suicide letter has recovered from the body.

As per the details, the deceased was beaten by iron rods on 1 January and found dead yesterday. Sumit’s father has accused four tribal men of suicide.

People are protesting against the police action

“Sumit was threatened with the Harijan act but police is not doing anything in the case. We are meeting with the SP for a speedy trial of the case. This draconian act is taking the lives of Brahmans but the government instead of neutralizing its misuse is making more stringent provisions”, Brahmin Mahasabha chief Dinkar Tiwari told Neo Politico.

Accused not yet arrested 

The named accused have not been arrested by the local police. The people are staging a dharna against the injustice that happened with the deceased. However, the police have claimed that the accused will be nabbed soon.
