Haridwar(Uttrakhand, India): Many media reports claim that hours after Argentina beat India in the women’s hockey semis at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, three upper-caste men had started hurling casteist abuses against Vandana Katariya’s family.
Vandana’s kin alleged that three men had passed the casteist slurs and burst firecrackers to show them down.
To cross-check the claims made by the family, our team has reached the village Roshanabad where the alleged incident has happened.
The neighbors brought to our notice that Vanandana Katariya’s family has had a long-time dispute with the accused. The accused Vijay Pal who hails from the OBC community is having a shop in the area. The family of Vandana Katariya had a good relationship with the accused and they used to buy groceries from Pal’s shop.
But when the accused demand the outstanding money from the Katariya family, they abused and fought with the accused. Also, the accused shared a video where the Katariya family could be seen attacking Pal’s family with sticks and bamboos.
The residents of the area told us that on many occasions Katariya family has attacked the accused family and also the alleged incident of bursting crackers has never happened.
“They are making baseless claims of bursting firecrackers and caste abuse. Nothing happened like that. Katariya family is having a long-standing rivalry with the accused”, Deepak told Neo Politico.
“My son was sleeping when police came to arrest”
Kavita Pal said that his son had a fever and was sleeping inside the house when the police came to arrest him. She also claimed that her husband had filed two FIRs on the Katariya family.
“We have already filed two FIRs on the Katariya family. In order to get rid of those cases they have imposed a false case of the SC-ST Act”, Kavita said.
Police have filed a case of SC-ST act on three men and arrested Vijay Pal. The investigation is on and officials will proceed as per findings.
