Kanpur(India): A Brahmin girl along with her family members have been booked under the provisions of the SC-ST act for protesting the sexual advances of a Dalit man.
The incident took place in the Juhi Bamburhiya area of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh where a girl was molested and forced to marry a Dalit man. The Dalit man named Rohit Gautam, 30 years, who is keen to marry a brahmin girl Ritika Mishra, was harassing and molesting the girl for fulfilling his sexual advances for the last four years. He not only tortured her but also lodged a false complaint against the girl’s family by misusing the controversial SC/ST act.
According to Ritika, Rohit had molested her several times and forced her to establish physical relations with him. He also slapped her when she refused to do so.
“I am living in a Dalit majority area where the majority of the people are hostile towards me and my family. Rohit Gautam is forcing me to marry him. Several times he sent me vulgar texts and threatened me in the name of acid attacks”, Ritika told NP.
The family believes that it is their caste that is creating the problem. Many times they have complained to the police but nothing happened. The Dalit family continue to harass them and trying to get their daughter.
All these incidents deteriorated Ritika’s mental state and forced her to attempt a suicide by slitting her wrist.
However, the local police said that they have taken quick action against the accused. Recently he was sent to jail where he spent 18 days. Further investigations and actions are being taken.
