Lalitpur(India): The Allahabad High Court recently set aside the conviction of a man jailed for 20 years on allegations of rape, criminal intimidation and charges under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
While the case is not making any headline in national media, our team reached Vishnu Tiwari’s place to know how his family has suffered during the last 20 years.
Mahadev Tiwari, Vishnu’s younger brother, spoke to us. He clarified that in these 20 years not a single time Vishnu got bail. Meanwhile, our parents along with two brothers passed away in Vishnu’s miseries.
“I am 35 years old and couldn’t get married. My younger brother and a nephew who is around 27 years old are also facing the same problem. Not only Vishnu, but we are also living in hell-like conditions” he added.
“Investigating officer was a Dalit”
The officer who filed a framed charge sheet hails from the Dalit community. Based on his investigations, the lower court convicted Vishnu Tiwari.
He was sentenced to imprisonment for 10 years in rape charges and convicted under the SC/ST act where he was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
The family also said that the officer has some kind of Brahminophobia. Many times he did cruelty with the Vishnu and forced him to accept what he had never done.
“We were ostracized from our village”
Vishnu’s nephew Surender Tiwari accused that after Vishnu got arrested in a false and framed case majority of the villagers had boycotted our family.
“I was forced to leave my school midway. We were banned from participating in any social activities”, Surender Tiwari told NP.
