Former Dalit MLA sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a Brahmin girl

Badaun(Uttar Pradesh): An MP-MLA court on Saturday sentenced Yogendra Sagar, a former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA, to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 in connection with the abduction and rape of a student 13 years ago.

He was accused of abducting an undergraduate student on April 23, 2008, from Bilsi, Uttar Pradesh, and thereafter raping her on multiple occasions.

As per the judgment, the girl was raped at many places, including Delhi and at the residence of the MLA.

The medical report suggests that the girl was raped based on which the court has given its judgment.

Judgment

What was the incident?

A 19-year-old girl was abducted and gang-raped by the MLA and his two kins. However, under the influence of MLA, the local police had filed the closure report which was rejected by the court.

During trials, the girl testified that she was abducted by the MLA and his two followers when she was going to her friend’s house. The MLA and his workers raped her multiple times at his residence.

Police recovered the victim from Muzzafarnagar’s railway station (around 200 KM away from her home). However, the court raised concerns over the dramatic recovery of the girl. The judge in his judgment has said that the police’s role was suspicious and looks supportive for the MLA.

Son belongs to BJP

Yogendra’s son Kushagra Sagar, also an accused in a rape case, holds an MLA post on the ticket of BJP. Kushagra Sagar is also facing a rape case and is accused of raping the daughter of his maid.
