Ballia: A social media post claiming that cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were registered against 37 Rajputs and 22 Brahmins in Ghazipur has triggered discussion in Uttar Pradesh following the transfer of IPS officer Dr Iraj Raja as the new Superintendent of Police of Ballia.
The viral post links the alleged cases to Raja’s tenure as Ghazipur SP and makes allegations regarding the manner in which cases under the SC/ST Act were registered during his tenure.
However, the caste-wise figures cited in the post have not been independently corroborated through publicly available official records.
Raja was transferred from Ghazipur to Ballia on October 7, according to the information provided. He had been serving as Ghazipur SP since 2024. Vinay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new SP of Ghazipur.
The social media claim resurfaced after Raja’s new posting, with several posts referring to cases registered during his tenure in Ghazipur.
A review of available public records did not reveal any official document confirming that exactly 37 Rajputs and 22 Brahmins were booked under the SC/ST Act in Ghazipur during Raja’s tenure.
Cases invoking provisions of the SC/ST Act have, however, been reported in Ghazipur. An Allahabad High Court order from September 2026 refers to a case registered at Kasimabad police station in the district in which provisions of the SC/ST Act were invoked along with provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The court had rejected the accused persons’ appeal and allowed the proceedings before the lower court to continue. The case, however, does not establish the caste-wise figures cited in the viral social media post.
The distinction is significant as the existence of individual cases under the SC/ST Act does not, by itself, substantiate the claim that 37 Rajputs and 22 Brahmins were booked under the law.
According to the information available, Raja’s posting as SP of Ballia is reflected in the Uttar Pradesh Police profile from October 7, 2026.
The allegations have also gained attention because Ballia and Ghazipur are neighbouring districts, while the officer concerned has moved from one district to the other.
At present, the claim regarding 59 people belonging to the two communities remains unverified. In the absence of an official record establishing the figures, the allegations contained in the viral post cannot be treated as established fact.
Further clarification or documentation from the authorities would be required to establish whether the figures cited in the social media post are accurate.
