Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the wife of a senior Army officer for allegedly sharing sensitive information with foreign intelligence operatives, including individuals linked to China, who reportedly approached her online while posing as academicians.
The accused, a Telangana resident currently living within the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar Police Station in Jammu, allegedly came into contact with the suspected operatives under the pretext of academic engagement and writing assignments, according to preliminary investigation inputs.
An FIR has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and Sections 152 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to intelligence inputs, the suspected operatives initially engaged the woman in writing articles on environmental issues and geopolitics before gradually shifting the focus towards subjects related to defence, strategic affairs and military operations.
Investigators suspect that the alleged interactions may have been part of an attempt to obtain sensitive information. Sources said the woman came under the scanner following specific intelligence inputs alleging the collection, possession and transmission of sensitive documents, photographs and electronic data having implications for national security.
The information was allegedly shared through encrypted communication channels with individuals suspected of having links to foreign intelligence agencies, the sources said.
However, the police have not disclosed the precise nature of the information allegedly transferred, the identities of the suspected foreign contacts or the extent of any potential breach.
The investigation is underway to establish how the accused came into contact with the suspected operatives and whether any classified or strategically significant information was compromised.
Further details regarding searches, material recovered or the alleged communications have not been made public so far.
The allegations are under investigation, and the precise role of the accused remains to be established.
