Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the convening of the Monsoon Session of the state legislature from August 3, 2026, during which the government is expected to table the supplementary budget for the financial year 2026-27, introduce bills to replace ordinances issued after the previous session, and take up several other important legislative matters.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Announcing the decision, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the session would focus on securing legislative approval for additional financial requirements through supplementary grants while also addressing pending government business.
Khanna stated that the demands for supplementary grants for the ongoing financial year would be presented before the Legislature during the session. He added that replacement bills for ordinances promulgated after the prorogation of the previous session would also be introduced and passed. These ordinances had been issued to facilitate the implementation of important government decisions and now require legislative approval to remain in force.
Besides financial and ordinance-related business, the government is expected to place other necessary legislative proposals before both Houses of the Legislature.
The minister also noted that under the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, members are generally informed of the scheduled date of a session at least seven days in advance. The Cabinet’s approval ensures compliance with this procedural requirement ahead of the commencement of the state’s third legislative session of 2026.
Earlier this year, on February 11, the Uttar Pradesh government presented a Rs 9.12 lakh crore Budget for 2026-27, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, employment generation, healthcare, and overall economic growth. The upcoming supplementary budget is expected to provide additional financial allocations for ongoing and emerging government priorities.
The previous session of the state legislature was convened on April 30, following which the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council adjourned sine die on the same day. The session was formally concluded on May 7.
In a statement, the state government said the decision to convene the Monsoon Session was also in accordance with Article 174 of the Constitution of India, which mandates that the interval between two sessions of a state legislature must not exceed six months. The government said the August 3 session fulfills this constitutional requirement while enabling the Legislature to deliberate on key financial and policy matters.
