Anil Mishra Bail Plea to Be Heard Even on Sunday, High Court Gives State Just One Day to File Reply

Gwalior: The Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday issued notice in the case of Advocate Anil Kumar Mishra, who has been arrested along with others in a criminal matter. The case was heard in WP No. 2 of 2026 (Anil Kumar Mishra vs State of Madhya Pradesh and others).

A Division Bench of Justice G.S. Ahluwalia and Justice Ashish Shroti directed the State government to file its reply and granted time to the petitioner to move an amendment application challenging the order passed by the JMFC, Gwalior, and to implead the complainant as a party. The matter has been listed for January 4, 2026, and the State has been instructed to keep the case diary available before the Court.

The State was represented by Advocate General Prashant Singh along with Additional Advocate Generals and Government Advocates, while Advocate Anil Mishra was represented by a large team of lawyers, reflecting the significance of the case within legal circles.

Arrest under challenge

According to the petition, Anil Mishra and other accused were arrested in connection with a criminal case, following proceedings before the JMFC, Gwalior. The petition questions the legality of the arrest, the grounds invoked by the police, and the judicial order leading to custody, claiming violations of due process. These aspects are now under judicial scrutiny by the High Court.

Social media campaign gains momentum

The arrest has sparked a strong reaction online, with netizens and members of the legal fraternity launching a social media trend demanding the release of Advocate Anil Mishra. Users allege misuse of legal provisions and describe the arrest as an attack on the independence of lawyers, calling for his immediate release pending judicial review.

The High Court’s decision in the next hearing is expected to be crucial in determining the future course of the case.
