95-Year-Old Mother of IPS Officer Found Murdered in Ambedkarnagar, Jewellery Missing; Police Probe Death

Lucknow: The 95-year-old mother of 2016-batch IPS officer Ashutosh Mishra was found dead inside her home in Rudha Dhamrua village of Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar district, with gold jewellery reportedly missing from the house. The incident has raised suspicion of a possible robbery-murder, although the exact cause of death is yet to be established.

The deceased, identified as Indravati, lived alone at the village residence. Her body was discovered on a cot by her domestic help at around 9 am. Mishra, who is currently posted in Lucknow, reached the village later in the day and lodged a complaint alleging murder and robbery against unidentified persons.

According to the family, unidentified thieves may have entered the house on Saturday night and killed Indravati before fleeing with the jewellery she was wearing. A gold chain, nose pin, earrings and anklets were reportedly found missing.

However, the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation. Police said a relative initially informed the Malipur police station that Indravati had died of a heart attack around 8 am. Later, at approximately 2:30 pm, Ashutosh Mishra raised concerns that his mother had been murdered after noticing that the jewellery she had been wearing was missing.

A forensic team examined the crime scene and completed the panchnama. Police said no visible injury marks or signs of a struggle were found on the body. To determine the precise cause of death, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination conducted by a three-doctor panel, with the procedure videographed.

The investigation is now focused on determining how Indravati died, whether the missing jewellery was connected to her death and whether anyone entered the house before the incident. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also reacted to the incident, questioning the security situation in Uttar Pradesh.
