New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a peaceful youth march in the national capital on September 5, demanding that the Centre fulfil commitments it had made following the organisation’s July agitation, including those related to the withdrawal of FIRs against students and protesters.
According to a statement issued by the CJP, the march will be held on Teachers’ Day and will begin at India Gate before proceeding towards the Delhi Police Headquarters. The organisation said the decision to resume mobilisation was taken at a meeting of its National Working Committee on August 24.
The CJP said the proposed demonstration would include families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET examination and the subsequent re-test, as well as families of those who were allegedly subjected to police action during the July agitation.
The organisation said it had earlier called off its agitation after negotiations with the Centre and expected the assurances given during those discussions to be implemented. It said the delay in fulfilling the commitments had prompted it to resume what it described as peaceful mobilisation.
The Delhi Police, meanwhile, said it had not received any request letter regarding the proposed march so far. A police source said that if a request was received, it would be examined in accordance with the applicable procedures.
The proposed march comes amid continuing demands by sections of students and protesters for action on issues arising from the July agitation. The CJP has said that the September 5 programme will remain peaceful and will seek to draw attention to the concerns of affected students and their families.
Further details regarding permissions, the route and arrangements for the proposed demonstration are expected to be known after the organisers approach the authorities.
