New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was released on conditional bail on Saturday after signing a fresh peace bond of Rs 50,000, a day after he was detained while heading to participate in the party’s Lehra Do Tiranga protest in Delhi, police said.
Dipke was detained near his residence on Friday while travelling to join the protest scheduled to be held at Central Park in Connaught Place. He was subsequently arrested on Saturday morning for allegedly violating a peace bond that he had furnished on October 10, according to Delhi Police.
Following his arrest, Dipke was produced before the court of the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on Saturday in connection with fresh preventive proceedings related to an alleged breach of peace.
The proceedings were initiated under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deal with preventive measures to maintain public order and address apprehensions of a potential breach of peace.
Police said Dipke was released after furnishing another peace bond of Rs 50,000, subject to the conditions imposed in the proceedings.
The detention came as Dipke was on his way to participate in the CJP’s Lehra Do Tiranga protest in the national capital. Further details regarding the protest and the specific circumstances surrounding the alleged violation of the earlier bond were not immediately available.
Preventive proceedings are undertaken by authorities to prevent possible disturbances to public peace and order. In Dipke’s case, the latest action followed the alleged breach of the undertaking furnished earlier this month.
Dipke’s release came after he complied with the requirement of signing a fresh peace bond, police said.
