Mathura: An FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party’s outgoing city president Ritu Goyal in Mathura over allegations of assault, caste-based abuse and death threats, police said.

The case was registered at the Refinery police station on Saturday following a complaint by Manish Azad, a resident of Azad Nagar in the Kotwali area, under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, according to the complaint.

Azad alleged that on August 19, he and his friend Devnandan Kashyap were standing near their motorcycles in Barari village, where a meeting led by Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman had taken place.

According to the complainant, Goyal allegedly stopped his vehicle while returning from the meeting and, with the help of two accompanying bouncers and an unidentified man, had him restrained. He further alleged that she used casteist slurs and assaulted him.

Azad claimed that he was also threatened with death when he objected. His friend and other people subsequently intervened, he alleged.

The complainant has also accused Goyal of issuing casteist insults and threats over the phone.

Goyal’s response to the allegations was not available. Further details of the police investigation are awaited.
