Agra: A 44-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife, who is accused of burying his body beneath the bathroom floor of their house and pretending for nearly 45 days that he had gone missing. The chilling crime came to light during a routine police verification in Agra’s Sikandra area, leading to the arrest of the accused.
According to police, the victim, identified as Surendra Sharma, lived with his wife Ruby Sharma and their two daughters in the Dahatora locality. A missing person’s complaint regarding Surendra had been registered at Sikandra police station on May 26 after he was reported missing.
Investigators said the couple had been married for around 16 years. On the day of the alleged murder, Ruby reportedly sent their two daughters to the residence of Surendra’s elder brother before serving her husband kheer allegedly mixed with sleeping pills. After Surendra became unconscious, she is accused of strangling him to death.
Police alleged that the following morning, Ruby dug a pit beneath the bathroom floor, buried the body, and sealed the spot with cement in an attempt to conceal the crime. Over the next 45 days, she allegedly maintained that her husband had left home and reportedly expressed grief whenever neighbours or relatives inquired about his whereabouts.
The case took a dramatic turn when a police team visited the house as part of a routine verification linked to an earlier case involving Surendra. Officers reportedly noticed Ruby behaving nervously and calling her brother-in-law to the residence. Already suspicious about his brother’s disappearance and Ruby’s conduct, the brother-in-law shared his concerns with the police.
During sustained questioning, Ruby allegedly confessed to the crime and disclosed where the body had been buried. Police subsequently broke open the bathroom floor, exhumed Surendra’s body, and sent it for a postmortem examination.
ACP Ameesha of Agra’s Hariparwat Circle confirmed that Surendra’s missing person report had been registered on May 26. She stated that the investigation revealed he had allegedly been killed by his wife, who buried the body beneath the bathroom floor before covering it with cement.
The accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Police said further legal proceedings are underway as the investigation continues.
