New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in all 21 states governed by the BJP and its NDA allies before 2029. Shah made the announcement in Mumbai on Sunday while unveiling a 30-day Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Shah said the BJP and its alliance partners would organise the nationwide campaign from September 17 to October 17. Referring to the UCC, he said several states had already implemented it and expressed confidence that all 21 BJP-ruled states would adopt the common civil framework before 2029.
The Uniform Civil Code seeks to establish a common set of personal laws governing matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption, irrespective of religious affiliation. The announcement signals the NDA’s intention to make the issue a significant part of its governance agenda in the run-up to 2029.
Shah Praises PM Modi’s Global Standing
The Home Minister also highlighted what he described as India’s growing influence globally over the past 12 years. He said India’s Prime Minister’s views are now given importance on major international issues and claimed that the Indian passport has gained greater respect worldwide.
Shah cited a 68% approval rating for Modi and said 36 countries had honoured the Prime Minister with their highest international awards.
Strong Message on Illegal Infiltration
On illegal immigration, Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to identify and remove every illegal infiltrator from the country.
Responding to questions on India-China relations and the LAC following the Galwan incident, Shah said some sensitive matters could not be disclosed in the national interest or in the interest of the armed forces.
