India-China Relations Show Signs of Recovery as Ajit Doval and Wang Yi Hold Talks During BRICS Security Meeting in New Delhi

New Delhi: India and China have taken another step toward improving bilateral relations, with Indian National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi holding discussions on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi. The meeting, hosted by India as the current chair of the BRICS grouping, focused on regional stability, bilateral engagement, and the broader role of emerging economies in shaping global affairs.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the talks between Doval and Wang were “constructive and forward-looking.” Both sides reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and acknowledged progress toward the gradual normalization of ties after years of tension.

Relations between the two Asian powers had deteriorated significantly following the deadly border clash in eastern Ladakh in 2020, which led to a prolonged military standoff and strained diplomatic engagement. However, diplomatic and military-level talks over the past few years have contributed to easing tensions and rebuilding communication channels.

During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasized the importance of mutual respect and careful management of sensitive issues. According to a statement released by China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang said both countries should respect each other’s core interests and work toward handling differences through dialogue and cooperation.

The Chinese foreign minister also called for the resumption of various bilateral dialogue mechanisms and encouraged greater exchanges in areas such as trade, finance, law enforcement, and media. Such measures, he suggested, could help strengthen mutual trust and create a more stable foundation for future cooperation.

Beyond bilateral issues, Wang highlighted the role of BRICS in promoting a multipolar global order. He stated that the grouping should actively support efforts aimed at advancing multipolarity and enhancing the voice of developing nations in global governance.

The BRICS bloc, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has expanded in recent years with the inclusion of several new member countries. The New Delhi meeting brought together senior security officials from member states to discuss pressing international and regional challenges.
