New Delhi: Google has expanded its voluntary employee exit programme to five countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland, as the technology giant realigns its workforce to support its growing investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.
According to a Reuters report, the company is offering voluntary buyout packages to employees in these countries, although the number of workers who have accepted the offers remains unclear.
A Google spokesperson said the company initially introduced voluntary exit programmes with severance benefits in some teams in 2025 before expanding the initiative globally to select countries in June this year.
The move follows Microsoft’s recent announcement of voluntary buyouts for more than 60,000 eligible employees.
Google has identified AI and cloud computing as key hiring priorities, with employees in these strategic divisions excluded from earlier buyout programmes. Details of the latest severance packages have not been disclosed.
