CBI arrests DGCA official, aviation firm director in Rs 2.5 lakh bribery case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Deputy Director (Airworthiness) and the director of a private aviation training organisation in an alleged Rs 2.5 lakh bribery case, officials said on Monday.

The DGCA official, Sushil Kumar Garg, posted in Chennai, and Sushil Kumar Bhane, Director of Ekvi Air Training Organisation Pvt Ltd, were arrested after the agency received information about an alleged bribe demand, officials said.

According to the CBI, Garg allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 2.5 lakh in exchange for extending undue favours in the airworthiness certification of aircraft operated by the private firm.

The agency has registered an FIR and conducted searches in connection with the case. The company and other unidentified persons have also been named.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the role of other individuals and determine whether the alleged payment was part of a wider arrangement involving aviation-related regulatory approvals, the CBI said.
