Raipur: A shocking incident has sent ripples through the state bureaucracy, with a senior clerk, Pradeep Upadhyay, taking his own life, leaving behind a heart-wrenching suicide note accusing three high-ranking officials of harassment and discrimination.
The 51-year-old clerk, employed at the tehsil office of the collectorate, was discovered hanging from a noose in his residence in Purani Basti. A two-page handwritten note recovered from the scene, implicated former ADM Gajendra Thakur, Virendra Bahadur Singh, and former SDO Devendra Patel.
In the poignant note, Upadhyay detailed a harrowing ordeal of constant harassment and humiliation. He alleged that he was subjected to casteist slurs, being told to “drive away Brahmins.” The officers, he claimed, orchestrated his transfer to Kharora by fabricating a false complaint. The note further revealed that despite repeated attempts to seek justice, his pleas were ignored, and his reputation was tarnished.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation. The Brahmin community, to which Upadhyay belonged, has demanded swift and stringent action against the accused officials. Pramod Dubey, a Congress leader from the Brahmin community, highlighted the pattern of harassment, pointing out that the state president of the Tehsildar Sangh, Neelmani Dubey, had also been subjected to multiple transfers within a short span.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are scrutinizing the allegations made in the suicide note. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
