Hathras: Nine cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district have been found false following investigations and court proceedings, prompting authorities to initiate steps to recover government financial assistance provided to the complainants.
According to a report by News18 Hindi, the court has issued notices to the concerned individuals to recover the grants disbursed to them under the government’s assistance provisions. Legal action has also been initiated in connection with the presentation of false evidence before the court.
The complainants in these cases had received financial assistance in varying amounts. In cases registered at Sadabad police station, grants of Rs 1.5 lakh were provided in two cases, while another complainant received Rs 75,000.
In a case registered at Mursan police station, the complainant received Rs 2.5 lakh. A complainant in a case registered at Sahpau police station and another in a case registered at Sadar Kotwali were each given Rs 75,000.
Two additional cases were registered at Hathras Gate police station. However, the available information does not specify the amounts disbursed in those cases.
The assistance is provided under prescribed government rules to support eligible victims of offences covered by the SC/ST Act. However, authorities can initiate recovery and other legal proceedings if benefits are obtained through false claims or evidence.
The total amount involved across all nine cases and the final status of the recovery proceedings have not been disclosed in the available report.
