New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday criticised the Opposition’s rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, describing it as a “flop show” and questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote theft in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing reporters, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that the rally witnessed a poor turnout despite the Congress projecting a gathering of 10 lakh people. He alleged that nearly 40% of the ground remained vacant and dismissed the visuals of the gathering as “trick photography”.
Questioning Gandhi’s assertion that the 2024 elections were illegal, Patra challenged him to produce a petition challenging the election results. He said such objections should have been raised immediately after the polls.
Earlier, addressing the rally, Gandhi accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of facilitating alleged vote theft, claiming that it had undermined democratic rights. He also alleged that Kumar would face imprisonment for his role.
The ‘Chalo Delhi’ rally was organised to protest against the Chief Election Commissioner and the revision of electoral rolls. Several Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, participated in the gathering.
