Jaipur: A Brahmin family in Jaipur has found themselves at the center of a disturbing harassment after purchasing a plot of land in Maharana Pratap Yojana, Jayanagar. Rajveer Sharma and his family, alleges that their neighbours, a Meena family, have been relentlessly targeting them with both verbal and physical abuse since they began constructing their house earlier this year.
According to reports, the harassment began when the Brahmin family initiated construction on their newly purchased plot, adjacent to the Meena family’s property. The neighbours allegedly started by throwing stones at the workers and the family members on site. The situation quickly escalated, with the Meena family purportedly throwing sewer water at them, accompanied by threats aimed at destroying the Brahmin family’s religion by forcing them to drink the contaminated water.
The victims have described the abuse as not only physical but also deeply communal in nature. Rajveer claims that the attacks are designed to demean their religious beliefs and traditions.
The harassment took a legal turn when, a few months ago, the Brahmin family was falsely implicated under the SC/ST Act, a law designed to protect members of scheduled castes and tribes from discrimination. Himanshu, a member of the victimized family, mentioned that this was not the first time the Meena neighbors had employed such tactics. In fact, they had previously filed a false rape case against another Brahmin family living nearby, adding to concerns that they are using the law to intimidate and harass their neighbours.
A particularly violent confrontation occurred on April 15, 2024, when the Meena family allegedly caused serious harm to the Brahmin family while they were continuing with construction work. The altercation reportedly resulted in physical injuries to a woman from the Brahmin household, as well as damage to the construction site. The attackers reportedly broke scaffolding and sprayed the victims with pepper spray.
Additionally, the Rajveer family has accused the neighbors of throwing toilet water at their construction site to humiliate further and disrupt their work.
The Brahmin family has lodged multiple complaints with the local police, citing the Meena family’s actions as a continuous threat to their safety and well-being. The police are said to be investigating these incidents, with several officers and case numbers referenced in the official documentation. However, Rajveer fears that due to the sensitive nature of the SC/ST Act, their complaints may not receive the proper attention they deserve.
Local community leaders have expressed concern about the escalating situation, urging the authorities to take decisive action to ensure the safety of all residents involved.
