Rahul Gandhi No Longer a Hindu! Shankaracharya Declares His Excommunication from Hinduism

Varanasi: A major controversy has erupted at the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, following a resolution passed against the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The proposal, introduced in a Dharma Sansad (Religious Parliament) held during the Kumbh Mela, strongly condemned Gandhi’s recent remarks on Manusmriti, demanding that he clarify his stance within a month. Failing to do so, the religious body has warned that he will be excommunicated from Hinduism.

The resolution was introduced by Dharma Parishad member Vikas Patni and was endorsed by Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati. A video posted on Shankaracharya’s official Instagram handle stated that Rahul Gandhi must present his defense before the Param Dharma Sansad within a month. He will be declared an outsider to the Hindu faith if he fails.

The controversy stems from a speech Rahul Gandhi made in the Lok Sabha while addressing the Hathras gang rape case. Referring to the incident, Gandhi criticized the law-and-order system, stating:

“The rapists are roaming free while the victim’s family is confined to their home. The family cannot step out because the criminals threaten them. Where is it written in the Constitution that rapists should be free while the victim’s family lives in fear? This might be written in your book Manusmriti, but it is not in the Constitution.”

His remark linking Manusmriti to protection of rapists sparked widespread outrage among religious scholars and Hindu leaders. Many believe that his statement deeply hurt the sentiments of those who regard Manusmriti as a sacred text.

During the Dharma Sansad at Maha Kumbh 2025, religious leaders gathered to discuss Gandhi’s statement. In the session, Shankaracharya Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati addressed the issue, stating:

“A video clip circulating on social media shows Rahul Gandhi claiming that Manusmriti protects rapists. This has deeply hurt the faith of millions who revere Manusmriti as a sacred text. The Dharma Sansad strongly condemns this statement and demands an explanation or an apology from Rahul Gandhi within a month.”

The Shankaracharya further added that if Gandhi fails to clarify his stance or apologize, he will face excommunication from Hinduism.

This development has sparked a political storm, with Congress leaders defending Rahul Gandhi, stating that his comments were meant to highlight social injustices rather than attack Hinduism. Meanwhile, BJP and right-wing groups have criticized Gandhi for allegedly insulting Hindu traditions and scriptures.

The controversy has also gained traction on social media, with opinions divided. Some believe Gandhi was merely pointing out societal issues, while others argue that his wording was offensive and misleading.

With just a month’s deadline set by the Dharma Sansad, all eyes are now on Rahul Gandhi’s response. Will he issue a clarification or an apology, or will this issue escalate further?
