Pulwama: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Wednesday inaugurated its first permanent office in Barsoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, marking a significant step towards expanding the organisation’s activities in the Valley.
RSS Kashmir in-charge Samir Kuche said the development reflected a changing Kashmir, where children and young people increasingly aspire to pursue education rather than resort to stone-pelting.
BMS All India Organisation Minister B. Surendran said the permanent office would facilitate coordination among organisational workers and strengthen engagement with local residents and the workforce.
The move comes against the backdrop of Pulwama’s troubled security history. The district has witnessed militant activity involving groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Pulwama was also the site of the February 14, 2019, suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy near Lethpora, in which 40 personnel were killed. The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack.
The organisation’s new office is expected to serve as a base for coordinating activities and strengthening grassroots connections in south Kashmir.
