Patna: Leader of the Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday made a strong appeal for constitutional protection and social justice during his visit to Bihar, urging people to unite against discrimination and inequality. Attending the Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan in Patna, Gandhi invoked Bihar’s historical legacy of resistance, citing the Champaran Satyagraha and past movements for social justice as examples of the state’s unwavering stance against injustice.
“Whether it was the Champaran Satyagraha movement or the revolution for social justice – the land of Bihar has always taken firm steps against injustice,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Today, that history is calling out again. Against the attacks on the Constitution, against bias and discrimination, for economic and social equality and justice – come, let us unite and raise our voices!”
The Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan comes in the wake of mounting concerns over the erosion of constitutional values, unemployment, and youth migration. Earlier in the day, Gandhi also joined the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in Begusarai for their Palayan Roko, Naukri Do rally, a protest highlighting the issues of joblessness and migration faced by the youth in Bihar. The rally was led by NSUI’s national in-charge, Kanhaiya Kumar.
Gandhi had already signaled his support for the youth movement on Sunday, expressing solidarity with the young participants and announcing his participation. “Young friends of Bihar, I will be coming to Begusarai on April 7 to join you in the ‘Roko Palayan, Do Naukri’ campaign,” he wrote. “The goal is to show the world the spirit of Bihar’s youth, their struggles, and their hardships.”
He also urged participants to wear white t-shirts as a symbolic demand for accountability from the Bihar government. “Come wearing a white t-shirt, ask questions, raise your voice—to put pressure on the government for your rights,” he said, rallying support to transform Bihar into a state of opportunity.
Following his participation in the Begusarai rally and the Patna Sammelan, Gandhi is also scheduled to address a public meeting later in the evening.
