FIR Registered Against Controversial Web Series ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ for Allegedly Hurting Brahmin Community Sentiments

Lucknow: The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the director and associated team of a controversial web series titled ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’, which is reportedly being broadcast on social media platforms and an OTT platform. The action has been taken by Hazratganj Police Station under the Central Zone, following allegations that the series attempts to insult a particular caste and disturb social harmony.

According to Press Note No. 224 issued by the Police Commissionerate, the action was initiated in compliance with the instructions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who has directed strict measures against any activity that threatens communal harmony or hurts religious and caste sentiments. Inspector In-charge of Kotwali Hazratganj, Mr. Vikram Singh, took cognizance of the matter after the web series came to public notice.

The police stated that the title of the web series itself appears to be deliberately derogatory and aimed at targeting the Brahmin community. The content and nomenclature of the series have reportedly triggered widespread anger among members of the Brahmin community as well as several social organizations. Some groups have also warned of protests, raising concerns about potential law and order issues.

Prima facie, the police believe that the creators of the series may have intended to spread animosity, provoke social outrage, and disrupt peace and harmony in society. Considering the sensitive nature of the issue, an FIR has been lodged under relevant legal provisions against the director and his team.

The Lucknow Police have emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy will be followed in cases involving attempts to hurt the sentiments of any community or disturb public peace. Further investigation and legal proceedings are currently underway, and authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
