Congress to Chart New Course at Ahmedabad Convention: Focus on Foreign Policy and Private Sector Reservation

Ahmedabad: The Indian National Congress is set to hold a crucial two-day All India Congress Committee (AICC) convention in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, beginning April 8, with foreign policy and the contentious issue of reservations in the private sector taking center stage. This significant gathering marks a strategic move by the party to redefine its ideological stance and prepare for future political battles in an evolving national landscape.

Themed “Nyaypath: Sankalp, Samarpan, Sangharsh” (Path of Justice: Resolution, Dedication, Struggle), the convention seeks to reflect the party’s renewed commitment to justice, inclusion, and democratic values. According to party insiders, Congress will discuss a wide range of issues including foreign affairs, educational reforms, inflation, and most notably, the implementation and protection of reservation policies for SCs, STs, and OBCs—especially in the private sector.

A drafting committee meeting scheduled for April 7 will finalize key recommendations, which will be presented to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during the convention. The party is expected to adopt political and economic resolutions aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges of unemployment, inequality, and socio-economic disparities.

“This convention is not just a routine meeting but a blueprint for the future,” said a senior Congress leader. “With the increasing privatization of employment opportunities, ensuring equitable representation for marginalized communities has become more urgent than ever.”

Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot, speaking ahead of the convention, emphasized the party’s ongoing generational shift. “Change does not happen overnight; it is a gradual process. We are witnessing a transformation within the Congress that aims to balance experience with youthful energy,” Pilot said. He further added that despite setbacks in recent elections, the party’s morale remains high, and it is committed to reclaiming its lost ground.
