Patna: In a significant move, the Bihar government has announced that the existing 35% reservation in state government jobs for women will now be available only to those who are permanent residents of Bihar. The decision was taken at a State Cabinet meeting held on Thursday and was shared with the media by Dr. S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat.
Since 2016, Bihar has maintained a 35% reservation quota for women in government jobs, benefiting countless female candidates across the state and outside. However, with the new domicile policy, only women who can prove their permanent residence in Bihar will be eligible to avail this quota. The move is expected to provide greater employment opportunities to local women and strengthen regional representation in government services.
Additionally, the Cabinet also approved the formation of a seven-member Youth Commission. This new body will focus on addressing critical issues concerning the youth, including migration, skill development, and creating avenues for self-reliance and holistic development. The government hopes that this commission will play a crucial role in empowering the younger generation and reducing the outflow of talent from the state.
