Aligarh: Tensions flared in Aligarh on Sunday as the convoy of Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman came under a violent confrontation allegedly orchestrated by members of the Karni Sena. The incident, which took place near the Gobhana Toll Plaza, resulted in severe damage to several vehicles and has raised serious concerns over the local administration’s failure to ensure security despite prior threats.
The confrontation stems from remarks made by Ramji Lal Suman regarding historical figure Rana Sanga, which angered the Karni Sena — an organization known for defending the legacy of Rajput icons. Enraged by the comments, Karni Sena office bearers and workers allegedly launched an attack on the MP’s convoy, throwing stones and tires at the passing vehicles. The sudden encounter shattered windows and caused significant damage to multiple cars.
The chaos escalated further as the speeding vehicles in the convoy, trying to flee the scene, collided with each other near Khereshwar Chauraha on the highway in the Lodha police station area. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic and disarray as drivers struggled to maintain control amidst the unexpected ambush.
Following the confrontation, MP Ramji Lal Suman continued his journey towards Gabhana and Bulandshahr, reportedly unharmed. However, the incident has sparked outrage, especially as the Karni Sena had earlier issued threats, demanding an apology from Suman for his comments. Despite the warning signs, no significant security measures were put in place to safeguard the convoy, leading to growing criticism of the local police and administration.
Taking full responsibility for the incident, Karni Sena leaders have declared that such actions will continue until Ramji Lal Suman publicly apologizes for his statements about Rana Sanga.
The local police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident and calls for heightened security for political figures in the area are gaining momentum.
