Tej Pratap Yadav Breaks Silence After Ouster from RJD: Blames ‘Greedy Political Players’ for Rift with Family

Patna: In a dramatic turn of events within Bihar’s prominent political family, Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has spoken out for the first time since his expulsion from the party and estrangement from his family. Taking to social media on Sunday, June 1, the former state minister expressed anguish over being sidelined and accused unnamed individuals of manipulating internal dynamics for personal gain.

On May 25, Lalu Prasad Yadav expelled Tej Pratap from the RJD for six years and declared a complete severance of familial ties, citing “irresponsible behaviour” and actions inconsistent with public conduct. The decision has sent shockwaves through Bihar’s political corridors, especially with assembly elections on the horizon.

In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), Tej Pratap addressed his parents, Lalu Prasad and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, saying, “My dear mom and dad… My whole world is just you two. You and any order given by you are greater than God. If you are there, then I have everything. All I need is your trust and love, nothing more.”

He went on to cryptically criticize unnamed figures, referring to them as “greedy people” and likening them to “Jaichand” — a historical figure often invoked in Indian politics to symbolize betrayal. “If it weren’t for you, neither this party would exist, nor would those greedy people like Jaichand who play politics with me,” he wrote.

Though Tej Pratap did not specify who these individuals were, political observers speculate rising tensions within the RJD between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, the party’s chief ministerial face for the upcoming elections, may have been a contributing factor.

The ouster also drew comment from Tej Pratap’s estranged wife, Aishwarya Rai, who termed the family dispute “a drama” in media statements, adding another layer of public scrutiny to the Yadav family’s internal affairs.

Tej Pratap Yadav entered politics in 2015, winning his first assembly seat and later serving in the state cabinet in two brief terms. Known for his spiritual interests and maverick persona, he has remained a controversial figure within the RJD.
