Agra: Tensions are rising in Agra as Dalit organizations have openly come out in support of Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman, following threats from the Karni Sena. The group has announced a renewed confrontation on Suman’s residence on April 12, in response to his remarks on Rajput ruler Rana Sanga. In a strong rebuttal, Dalit organizations have accepted the challenge, declaring that the confronting group will be “taught history and sent back.”
The dispute erupted after MP Ramjilal Suman made statements in Parliament regarding Rana Sanga, which the Karni Sena deemed disrespectful. Following this, members of the Karni Sena vandalized his residence. However, instead of bowing to the intimidation, various Dalit organizations have rallied behind the MP, seeing this as an attack on their community as a whole.
On Tuesday, the Dr. Ambedkar Anuyayi Ekta Foundation held a meeting at Buddha Vihar Guest House, where its members expressed unwavering support for MP Suman. Foundation President Ashish Prince declared, “This attack was not just on a Dalit MP, but on every Dalit household. MP Suman only spoke what is written in history. We will not let this intimidation go unanswered.”
SB Dinkar and Balwinder Jatav, senior members of the foundation, issued a bold statement in response to Karni Sena’s threats: “If anyone wishes to come on April 12, let them come. This time, we will ensure they leave after learning the true history. The country runs by the Constitution, not by the whims of Karni Sena.”
The controversy has sparked widespread reactions from political leaders and social activists. Former cabinet minister Ramgovind Chaudhary remarked, “Let the Yogi government go, and Karni Sena will become ‘Marni’ Sena.” Others have criticized the administration for failing to take action against the Karni Sena, accusing them of enabling extremist elements.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have been under fire for their lack of intervention. Despite previous acts of vandalism and threats, no major arrests have been made. The inaction of the police has further fueled the anger among Dalit groups, who see this as an attempt to suppress their voices.
At the meeting, leaders reiterated their commitment to constitutional values and urged for a peaceful resolution to the matter. “We will not allow anyone to manipulate history for their own political gains. The truth must prevail,” said Rahul Varun, one of the key figures in the movement.
