Rewa: A tense situation has arisen in the Sonouri Chowki area of Rewa district after a clash between two groups over a naming dispute, leaving one person critically injured.
According to local reports, a group of residents had renamed the area as “Ramnagar” after organizing a Hanuman Chalisa recitation on the eve of Diwali. They had also put up saffron flags in their houses as a symbol of their religious identity.
However, another group, allegedly associated with a particular ideology, opposed the renaming and insisted on keeping the area’s original name, “Ambedkar Chowk.” Tensions escalated when the group allegedly threatened the residents and demanded the removal of saffron flags.
The situation took a violent turn when Vishal Tiwari, one of the residents who had actively participated in the renaming initiative, was attacked with a knife. He sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about communal harmony in the region. Local authorities have deployed additional security forces to maintain law and order. Police are investigating the matter and have registered a case against the unidentified assailants. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
