Another Twist in Haryana IPS Officer ‘Suicide’ Case: Cop Shoots Self, Accuses Deceased ADGP of Corruption in Final Video

New Delhi: In a shocking turn of events, another Haryana police officer has allegedly died by suicide, adding a new and disturbing layer to the ongoing investigation into the death of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar. The deceased officer, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar, was posted with the cyber cell of Rohtak Police.

According to police officials, ASI Sandeep recorded a video before taking his own life, in which he accused the late ADGP Puran Kumar of corruption. The video, which has now gone viral, also expresses Sandeep’s strong support for former Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarnia, who was recently transferred following the controversy surrounding the ADGP’s death.

In his emotional video, Sandeep declared that Bijarnia was an honest and upright officer who was unfairly targeted. Drawing a powerful comparison, Sandeep said his death was an act of sacrifice “on the path of truth,” likening it to the martyrdom of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. “The country will awaken when we sacrifice ourselves on the path of truth,” he said in his final message.

Police sources told news agency PTI that Sandeep had played a crucial role in the arrest of head constable Sushil Kumar — a close aide of the late Puran Kumar — who was accused of demanding a bribe from a liquor contractor. The contractor had alleged that Sushil sought ₹2.5 lakh in Puran Kumar’s name during his tenure in Rohtak. Sushil Kumar was later arrested in connection with the bribery case.

Rohtak Superintendent of Police S S Bhoria, who reached the site after receiving information about Sandeep’s death, described him as a dedicated and honest officer. “We received information that a body had been found, after which we reached here. ASI Sandeep was very hardworking and sincere in his duty,” Bhoria told reporters. When questioned about the alleged suicide note and the viral video, Bhoria said, “To say anything at this stage is difficult. The forensic team is investigating the matter.”

The latest incident has reignited tensions in the Haryana Police Department, which is already reeling from the high-profile suicide case of ADGP Puran Kumar. The senior IPS officer was found dead at his government residence in Chandigarh last Tuesday, reportedly having shot himself. In a suicide note recovered from the scene, Kumar had named 16 senior IAS and IPS officers, alleging mental harassment and holding them responsible for his drastic decision.

Following his death, the Haryana government placed the state’s Director General of Police on leave and transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, replacing him with Surinder Singh Bhoria.

Adding to the complexity of the case, Puran Kumar’s wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, had written to the police seeking the inclusion of relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the FIR. Acting on her request, investigators added Section 3(2)(v) of the Act, which pertains to offences committed on grounds of caste.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Chandigarh IG Pushpendra Kumar is currently probing the ADGP’s death, while a separate inquiry has been initiated into ASI Sandeep’s suicide.
