Bareilly: A Pakistani woman, Shumayla Khan, who had been working as an assistant teacher at a government primary school in Madhopur, Bareilly, has been dismissed from service after it was revealed that she obtained the position using forged documents. This development has sent shockwaves through the education department.

Shumayla Khan was appointed as an assistant teacher in 2015 at Madhopur Primary School in Fatehganj West. Investigations revealed that she submitted a fake residence certificate issued by the office of the SDM Sadar, Rampur, during her appointment process. According to the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Sanjay Singh, Shumayla lacked legitimate proof of Indian citizenship.
Shumayla Khan was born in Pakistan and moved to India with her mother at an early age. Although her mother managed to secure forged documents for Shumayla, they never obtained Indian citizenship. Shumayla completed her education in Rampur and was selected for the BTC program based on merit. Upon completing the training, she secured a government job as a teacher in 2015.
Complaints about Shumayla’s citizenship began to surface, prompting an investigation led by the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU). The report revealed that her residence certificate and other documents were fabricated. The Tehsildar Sadar of Rampur confirmed that the certificate was obtained by providing false information.
The education department sought clarifications from Shumayla multiple times, but she failed to provide valid documents. Following these findings, Shumayla was suspended in May 2024, and her employment was officially terminated in January 2025.
Shumayla’s mother, Mahira Akhtar, was also found guilty of working in India using forged documents. Her services were similarly terminated after an investigation confirmed that she, too, was a Pakistani citizen.
A case has been registered against Shumayla at the Fatehganj West police station under serious charges, as confirmed by Bareilly North SP Mukesh Chandra Mishra. The complaint was lodged by the Block Education Officer, and legal proceedings are underway.
This incident has raised questions about the verification process for government appointments. The BSA stated that strict actions would be taken to prevent such lapses in the future. The revelation has also led to heightened scrutiny of similar appointments in the region.
