New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, particularly targeting Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for their perceived silence on the recent attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh. The criticism comes amidst ongoing violence in the neighboring country, which has sparked concerns over the safety of religious minorities, including Hindus.
During the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, former Union Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur questioned the Congress leadership’s apparent unwillingness to address the matter, contrasting it with the party’s outspoken position on the Gaza crisis. Thakur pointed out that Congress leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have spoken about the situation in Gaza but they have been mute on the horrors committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. “Congress and Rahul Gandhi are concerned about Gaza. But their lips are sealed when it comes to speaking about the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. What is this compulsion after all?” Thakur asked, triggering protests from the Congress benches.
Thakur highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent communication with Bangladesh’s interim government, where he emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Hindus and other religious minorities in the country. Thakur contrasted this with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who he noted had avoided mentioning the issue in their public statements.
The BJP’s criticism extended to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), where she condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza following the October 7 terror attack by Hamas, describing them as a “horrific genocide.” Priyanka wrote, “It is no longer enough to speak up for the civilians and thousands of innocent children who are being wiped out day after day by the horrific genocide taking place in Gaza. It is the moral responsibility of every government in the world to condemn the Israeli government’s genocidal actions and force them to stop.”
Sharing Priyanka’s post, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the Congress leadership of hypocrisy, claiming that the party’s support for human rights was selective depending on the context.
The BJP further asserted that despite calls from Hindu organizations for a strong response, there has been little acknowledgment from key opposition figures, raising questions about their commitment to protecting the interests of Hindus.
