“Due to caste-based reservation my son went to study in Ukraine”, Says father of student who died in shelling

Karnataka: A 21-Year-old Indian student who was killed in shelling in Ukraine has raised serious safety issues of Indians stranded in war-torn Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the father of Naveen Shekharappa, a 21-year-old from Karnataka, who died in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, has raised the issue of caste-based reservation due to which he was forced to send his son to study in Ukraine.

“Here in India, they are allocating the caste-based seats. My son has got 97% marks in PUC but didn’t get any seat”, Father of Naveen told Neo Politico.

The anger and pain could be seen in the face of the father who lost his meritorious kid in a foreign state.

“Place an Indian flag” outside the building

As the Indian government was assuring that both countries have assured them of the safety of Indians, Naveen was advised by his family to “place an Indian flag” outside of his building.

“If you have a big flag, place it on the building… You show the flag outside the building you are in… The minister told the same thing. He told that you people should show the flag as much as possible,” his father said.
