Dhaka: According to a rights group, there have been around 3,721 attacks on Hindus within Bangladesh in the last nine years. The Dhaka Tribune reported that the data came from a leading rights group ‘Ain o Salish’ Centre, according to which 2021 has been the deadliest year so far in the last five years. At least 1,678 cases of vandalism and arson on Hindu temples, idols, and places of worship have been registered during the same period.
The worst in the last nine years was in 2014 when 1,201 houses and establishments of minorities were vandalized by miscreants. By the end of September this year, 196 houses, trading centers, temples, monasteries, and idols were also vandalized.
The attacks on the Hindu community have raised concerns in the western world also. The UN, the U.S., and India have condemned incidents of majoritarian violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority community during Durga Puja in the past few days.
Protests on
More than ten thousand people in three districts of Barak Valley part of Assam on Monday gathered to protest violence on religious minorities in Bangladesh. They burnt Bangladesh’s National flag, attempted to cross the Indo-Bangladesh international border, and called for boycotting Bangladeshi products, officials said.
In the Karimganj district, where the border is divided by the Kushiyara river, hundreds of protesters attempted to cross it and go to Bangladesh. While in Hailakandi, Bangladesh’s national flag was burnt to mark the protest.
The protesters sent memorandums to prime minister Narendra Modi and requested the government to stop all kinds of trades with Bangladesh. They also blamed that Bangladesh is trying to vacate the Hindus and this act of violence is part of that conspiracy.
