New Delhi: Officials said that thirty-eight cows were charred to death after a fire broke out at a dump yard and engulfed a cow shelter nearby. Police had received a phone call that a fire had broken out in a Jhuggi area. The fire got worsened after a small cylinder had started bursting and it took a nearby cow shelter in its reach.
The incident took place around 1.30 pm at the goshala in Kanawani village under the Indirapuram police station limits. Suraj Pandit, the operator of the Shri Krishna Goshala, has said that there were 150 cattle at the shelter. At least 38 have perished in the incident. Senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot and the district magistrate also initiated an inquiry into the incident.
Fire officials have said that about 100 shanties were also gutted during the incident but there were no fire-related injuries.
Senior district officials also reached the spot after the incident. “I have asked officials to prepare a detailed report of the incident and highlight the source of the fire. They have also been asked to inquire in detail about the number of cows that died due to the fire,” said RK Singh, Ghaziabad district magistrate.
