Bengaluru: The full bench of Karnataka High Court has resolved to place portraits of Dr. B R Ambedkar at all official functions in the High Court’s Principal Bench at Bengaluru, benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi, and also in the district and taluka courts.
The circular issued on February 4 has allowed the portrait of BR Ambedkar to be placed during functions such as Republic Day on 26th January, Independence Day in the High Court of Karnataka, Principal Bench at Bengaluru, Benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi, and also in District and Taluka Courts in the State.
There were protests in Raichur by a group of advocates and others on January 26 on the allegation that the Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDSJ) got removed a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar kept along with a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, before hoisting the national flag on the court premises.
The ruling has now empowered the officials to use BR Ambedkar’s portrait at every official function.
