Meerut: A clash broke out between Bhim Army workers, led by the Azad Samaj Party, and the police on Saturday evening in Meerut. The workers were protesting against a controversial statement made by Yeti Narsinghanand, which they claim insulted Prophet Muhammad. The protesters, demanding that Narsinghanand’s tongue be cut for his remarks, were dispersed by police as they attempted to take out a march without official permission.
The demonstration was planned for the Lisadi Gate area under the leadership of local Azad Samaj Party member Sagar Singh Lisadi. As the workers began their protest march, police intervened and drove the crowd away. Authorities stated that the rally had not been authorized, prompting their response to prevent any possible escalation of tensions.
Sagar Singh Lisadi, a key organizer of the protest, voiced strong opposition to Narsinghanand’s remarks, stating, “Yeti Narsinghanand has insulted our Nabi sahab. Our constitution does not allow mocking any religion or making derogatory comments about it. Despite this, Yeti has spoken against Nabi sahab, and we will not tolerate this insult.”
He further added that the protests would continue until Yeti Narsinghanand faced consequences for his actions, specifically calling for his tongue to be cut as punishment.
The protest was peaceful initially, but the situation escalated when police confronted the marchers, leading to a tense face-off between the authorities and the protesters. The police maintained that their intervention was necessary to maintain law and order, particularly given the sensitive nature of the issue.
No significant injuries or detentions have been reported at this time, but the Azad Samaj Party has vowed to persist in their protests until their demands are met. Further developments are awaited as the situation remains sensitive.
