Chhatarpur: President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significant role of saints in eradicating social evils and ensuring a dignified place for women in Indian society. She was addressing a grand mass wedding ceremony at Bageshwar Dham in Garha village, Chhatarpur district, where 251 couples tied the knot.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu emphasized the contributions of revered saints such as Sant Tukaram, Sant Ravidas, Kabirdas, Guru Nanak, and Mirabai in fostering social reforms. She asserted that the saint community has historically played a crucial role in advocating for equality and eliminating societal injustices.
“The saint community has not only raised its voice against social evils but has also ensured that women secure a respectable position in society,” Murmu stated. She further added that saints continue to be instrumental in shaping a progressive India and will play a vital role in the nation’s goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.
The mass wedding event was organized by Bageshwar Dham, a spiritual institution renowned for its philanthropic initiatives. Murmu commended the efforts of the institution and stressed the importance of empowering newly married women. To support their self-reliance, the organizers distributed sewing machines and essential household items to the brides.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Bageshwar Peeth’s seer Dhirendra Shastri, who also addressed the gathering.
The ceremony not only marked the beginning of new lives for the 251 couples but also underscored the significance of collective efforts in fostering a just and equitable society.
