Lucknow: The incident began on Wednesday morning when the three students were approached by their classmates, who raised concerns with their class teacher about the girls not adhering to the uniform policy. The class teacher initially attempted to resolve the matter by asking the students to remove their hijabs, in accordance with the school’s dress code. When the students refused, the issue was brought to the attention of the Acting Principal, Surjeet Yadav.
According to reports, the Principal reiterated the importance of following the school’s dress code and maintaining discipline. The students were asked to come to school in the prescribed uniform or not attend at all. In response, the students allegedly threatened to drop out if they were not allowed to wear their hijabs.
The Principal viewed the students’ actions as indiscipline and asked them to write a statement acknowledging their breach of school rules. The students’ names were also recorded for not following the dress code.
The situation escalated further when the families of the students became involved. However, after a discussion with the school authorities, two of the students and their families agreed to comply with the dress code, and the students returned to school in the prescribed uniform. The third student, however, continued to resist and did not attend classes the following day.
On Thursday, the student who had not returned to school arrived with her family. There were attempts to frame the issue as a religious dispute, but Principal Yadav clarified that the matter was strictly about discipline and the uniform policy, emphasizing that all students must adhere to the same rules.
In an effort to compromise, the Principal allowed the students to wear their hijabs outside the school gate and then remove them upon entering the campus. This solution was eventually accepted by all parties involved.
The school management confirmed that the situation has now been resolved, with all students attending classes as per the dress code. SDM Rashmi Lamba also affirmed that the matter had been addressed and that the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) had been informed.
