Prayagraj: In a gruesome daylight murder that has sent shockwaves across Uttar Pradesh, a 21-year-old youth, Shubham Tiwari, was brutally stabbed to death by a group of men near Baria Rampur station in the Sarai Mamarez police station area of Prayagraj. The assailants not only stabbed him repeatedly but also mutilated his private parts, leading to his agonising death in front of his cousin.
The horrifying incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Saturday when Shubham, a resident of Neebhapur village under Mungarabadshahpur police station in Jaunpur district, was on his way to Baria Rampur station along with his cousin Pawan. Without any provocation, 4-5 assailants allegedly stopped the duo and began assaulting them. According to Pawan, while two of the attackers held Shubham down, three others took turns stabbing him mercilessly.
“When he fell to the ground, half-dead, they cut off his private part,” Pawan recalled in a trembling voice. “Even after that, they kept stabbing him. I fainted from the horror.” Pawan tried to call the police emergency number 112 during the attack but was held back by the attackers.
Shubham died on the spot in a pool of blood. The crime scene, just 200 meters from Baria Rampur station, quickly became a site of chaos as locals gathered in outrage. The grieving family and enraged villagers staged a protest by placing Shubham’s body in front of the local police station, demanding immediate justice. The protest was later pacified after police assurances.
Shubham Tiwari had recently returned to his village after quitting a private job in Delhi due to low pay. He was the youngest in his family, which includes his father Triloki Nath Tiwari, a farmer; his mother Pushpa Tiwari; elder brother Pushpendra, a tent maker; and a married sister. Shubham was unmarried and deeply loved by his family.
Police investigations have revealed that the incident stemmed from a monetary dispute involving an individual from Jaunpur’s Paivara police station area. DCP Ganganagar Kuldeep Singh Gunawat confirmed that names of two suspects have surfaced during the investigation. “We are pursuing strong leads. The culprits will be behind bars soon,” he said.
ACP Handia Sunil Kumar Singh appealed for peace and assured the public that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators. Heavy police deployment remains in the area to prevent any flare-up of violence.
The brutal nature of the murder — in broad daylight, in a public place, and involving extreme mutilation — has raised serious questions about law and order in the region. Local leaders and civil society groups have demanded a speedy trial and maximum punishment for those involved.
As Prayagraj mourns the senseless loss of a young life, Shubham’s family is left devastated, calling for justice — and an end to such monstrous acts of violence.
