Dalit Men Imposed SC ST Act, Demands Money, Farmer Commits Suicide

Sitapur: A tragic incident unfolded in the Ramgarh village of Sitapur district on Tuesday when a 37-year-old man, Manoj Kumar, was found hanging from a jamun tree behind his residence. In a suicide note recovered by the police, he attributed his extreme step to the harassment he faced due to a false case lodged against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act.

Manoj Kumar, a resident of Ramgarh village under the Sandana police station area, left behind a heartbreaking message detailing the ordeal he endured. According to the suicide note, he was deeply troubled by the false allegations leveled against him by five individuals from his village. These individuals had reportedly filed a case under the SC/ST Act, causing him immense distress.

The deceased’s wife, Pinky, filed a complaint with the police, corroborating her husband’s claims. She stated that the opponents had been continuously dumping contaminated water on their land, and when Manoj protested, they threatened to falsely implicate him in another case. This relentless harassment, coupled with the stress of the ongoing legal proceedings, pushed Manoj to the brink.

The police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case based on Pinky’s complaint. Station in-charge Chandrabhan Yadav has assured that a thorough investigation is underway to bring justice to the victim and his family.

The tragic demise of Manoj Kumar highlights the urgent need to address the misuse of the SC/ST Act and to provide adequate support and protection to individuals who face false allegations.
