Shimla: Thousands of demonstrators blocked roads in Shimla on Wednesday as anger swelled over the establishment of the Sawarna Aaayog. The Devbhumi Sawarn Sagthan led upper-caste organizations are protesting for not responding to their demands in a fixed period of time.
The government had issued a notification for the establishment of Samanya Warg Aayog which was rejected by Rumit Thakur, the leader of Devbhumi Sawarn Sangthan. On the notification, Rumit Thakur has cleared that they want Sawarn Aayog, not Samanya Warg Aayog which will work for the upliftment of the Upper caste people. Whereas, Samanaya Aayog is for all general caste people including Muslims. Also, the future organization should be established through an act.
In the capital, Shimla, protesters swarmed a significant road going towards VidhanSabha as the crowd chanted anti-government slogans while some held signs criticizing the SC-ST act.
Vandalized the hoardings of the CM
The workers of Devbhoomi Savarna Samaj Sangathan have torn the hoardings of the Chief Minister near the Tutikandi crossing. Police have put up barricades near the assembly. The movement of buses coming from Talland towards Old Bus Stand has been stopped. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has reached Shimla via Kandaghat-Junga road. His route was changed in view of the crowd.
Demonstrators will march towards VidhanSabha
The protestors can possibly move towards the VidhanSabha to raise their demands. However, heavy police have been deployed near the CM house and the roads leading to the VidhanSabha.
